'How I Learned to Drive' Opens in Arts Center
This Pulitzer Prize-winning play blends comedy and tragedy in a contemporary drama.
'How I Learned to Drive' opens in the Greenbelt Arts Center (GAC) Friday.
GAC's latest production features a Maryland woman recounting her struggles growing up, revisiting her relationship with an abusive uncle who taught her the rules of the road and life.
Written by Paula Vogel and Directed by Patrick Miller, this Pulitzer Prize-winning play blends comedy and tragedy in a contemporary drama.
GAC states that due to permit delays, restrooms in the center are not likely to be available for the first weekend of the play, Jan. 20 and 21. GAC's website provides details on alternate locations in Roosevelt Center.
The play is 90 minutes with no intermission.

How is a theater, for health reasons alone, able to be open but without working restrooms?
Instead of driving around town, maybe the Greenbelt Code Enforcement Officers should be walking over to the GAC for an inspection?

Actually, we warned about the fact we began upgrading our bathrooms to meet ADA standards and the Aquatic Center and New Deal Cafe have been kind enough to allow our patrons use their restrooms. Point of note, the play runs 90 minutes sans intermission, so someone would have to go before or after the play anyway and a big port o' pot outside the Theatre would have caused more problems.

Update for this weekend: While restrooms may not be fully functional for this weekend of the play, Feb. 3-5, they should be available on a limited basis. Additional restrooms are available before the show at the following locations: The Greenbelt Co-op until 9pm, in the Aquatic Center across the parking lot from the theater until 9:45pm and upstairs in the Roosevelt Center at the New Deal Cafe until 11:00pm. We apologize for the inconvenience.
